Do you have any questions about one of our upcoming Student Matinees? The FAQ below has been written to address some of the most common questions we receive from schools and educators.
Frequently Asked Questions
- What time should we arrive and where should they wait till doors open? How does seating work?
The performance will begin promptly at 11:00am. Please arrive no later than 10:45 am to arrange your group into the Theatre. Doors will open at 10:00 am.
While your group waits to be brought into the theatre and to your seats, please wait in your own school group in either the Arts Commons pedway outside the Max Bell Theatre lobby doors or outside the building. Please be mindful of your group’s proximity to the next.
- Is there an intermission?
Depending on the play, there may be a fifteen (15) to twenty (20) minute intermission. This varies depending on the show. Please check with our Box Office team when you are booking your seats.
- Can students leave the lobby areas during intermission?
We request that students do not leave the lobby areas during the intermission. If students leave the theatre and are late returning, they may not be able to get back into the auditorium once the second act begins. House Manager Warnings for intermission cannot be heard outside the lobby areas.
- Will there be a talkback after the performance?
Yes, there will be a 15 to 20 minutes talkback that you may attend if you are able. If you are unable, please feel free to leave the theatre upon the conclusion of the performance.
- What type of attendees should be included in my total number of tickets purchased?
When providing the total number of seats, you MUST include yourself, all students, parents, teachers, chaperones, volunteers, aides, etc. Anyone who will attend the student matinee performance must be included in your numbers as we are unable to sell additional tickets on the day of the performance.
- Can I request additional tickets for my school or class?
Requests for additional seats must be made prior to attending and will be subject to availability.
- Can we select where our school sits in the theatre?
Seats are assigned for your school. We are not able to change seats once your school is seated.
- Will we be required to wear masks?
While not mandatory, all students, teachers, parents, volunteers, and chaperones are welcome to wear a mask in the lobby and seating area of the theatre. Please review our Safety and Comfort protocols for all our current guidelines.
- Can we eat and drink in the theatre?
Food or drink are not permitted to be consumed in the Max Bell Theatre seats and during the show. Students are welcome to bring their lunch and eat their lunch in their seats either before the performance begins once they are seated or during intermission. Please note that there is not enough time for them to leave and purchase lunch.
- What if one of my students/attendees require special seats for limited mobility, sight or hearing limitations, etc.?
Please let us know prior to attending.
- Are cameras or recording devices allowed?
No, camera or any recording devices are not permitted during the performance.
- May students chew gum in the theatre?
In order to keep the theatre clean, we would appreciate students did not chew gum in the Max Bell Theatre.
- I have another question which was not covered in this FAQ.
If you have a question not covered by this FAQ, please email students@theatrecalgary.com. One of our Box Office team will reply to your inquiry.
