UNDERSTUDY AND YOUTH
LEADERSHIP PROGRAMME

The Understudy & Youth Leadership Program is a community-related initiative that provides tickets to local organizations working with disadvantaged youth in Calgary. These young people associated with these organizations do not have the life advantages that many of their peers enjoy, and therefore would not experience the world of live theatre if not for this program.

Theatre Calgary sees the Understudy & Youth Leadership Program as providing the opportunity for young people to learn more about the dramatic arts and the roles played by the individuals that bring productions to life. Additionally, it provides youth with the opportunity to develop an understanding of the themes and ideas presented in productions and how they may apply them to everyday life.

“Our kids are some of the most abused, neglected, discordered, and troubled children in Alberta. Spending an evening at Theatre Calgary is not only a very exciting outing – it’s therapy. They learn how to act in public; they feel like normal kids, doing normal things.”- Lou Zaganelli, Director of Resource Development, Hull Child and Family Services

GROWTH OF THE UNDERSTUDY PROGRAM

Theatre Calgary looks forward to expanding the Understudy Program by increasing ticket donations and incorporating more community agencies that
may benefit from the opportunity of seeing live theatre. The expansion of this program relies on financial support from the corporate community.

COMMUNITY ORGANIZATIONS
