Music and lyrics by LISA LAMBERT & GREG MORRISON
Be
transported to the hilarious and wonderful world of the 1920s musical,
“when the champagne flowed while the caviar chilled and all the world
was a party.” It all begins when a die-hard musical fan shares his
favourite cast album, a smash-hit called “The Drowsy Chaperone,”
and the show bursts magically to life in his apartment. Fast, funny and
filled with surprises, this Canadian musical-comedy was the toast of the
2006 Tony Awards and will leave you soaring with laughter.
What a delightful combination: Delicious singing,
dancing, costumes and scenery, paired with a decidedly modern and
opinioned narrator who guides us through the story. This production
comes to us from Manitoba Theatre Centre where The Winnipeg Free Press
exclaimed it as “…a true theatrical lark, funny, dance-happy and oddly
uplifting.” I’ve seen it and I agree. - Dennis
