Shakespeare by the Bow

By WILLIAM SHAKESPEARE
Directed by GLYNIS LEYSHON

“Your town is troubled with unruly boys.”

Spend a summer’s evening in the park and laugh at one of Shakespeare’s silliest plays. When two sets of twins, separated at birth, find themselves in the same city, a series of wild mishaps ensue! Starring a company of Alberta’s up-and-coming actors, every performance is pay-what-you-will (no ticket required).

For the past two summers, Theatre Calgary has worked in partnership with Mount Royal University to present Shakespeare in the Park. In 2012, the production of A Midsummer Night's Dream was staged on Prince's Island. In 2013, due to the flood, the production of Romeo and Juliet was moved to the MRU campus for the summer.

This season, Theatre Calgary continues our city's summer Shakespeare tradition in one of the our most beautiful parks, Prince's Island. The name may be different, but the identity and spirit of the program remain the same. Shakespeare by the Bow places the education and training of emerging artists (recently graduated post-secondary drama students from across Alberta) front and centre. As we have for the past two years, Theatre Calgary will use professional expertise to mentor, celebrate and encourage the next generation of theatre artists.

This is our third year celebrating young artists of Alberta. Last summer we made national news as our production was washed away due to the floods. It took all of our efforts but the show went on. Now we’re back in beautiful Prince’s Island Park and this year we are more than ready to laugh with one of the Bard’s most delightful comedies.  Come back and continue the tradition that is Shakespeare in the Park.  – Dennis
