NEW for 2010! Each race course will be certified in accordance with Athletics Canada/Run Canada guidelines.
Staged out of Calgary’s scenic Bowness Park, The Big Run features
5km, 10km and Half Marathon (21.1km) events open to both runners and
walkers. Our courses are challenging and picturesque, taking
participants along the Bow River and through three northwest parks on
the city’s extensive pathway system. The Half Marathon runs on pathway
and residential roadway. The 2010 Big Run will be held on May 1, 2010
and is expected to attract over 1,200 runners, walkers and
volunteers.

To provide an optimal race experience for all participants, courses are open to registered runners and walkers only. Babyjoggers, rollerblades, bicycles, pets, etc. are not permitted. Race courses are subject to change due to poor weather, roadway/pathway construction or closures, etc. The pathways remain open to the public during all events. The Organizing Committee strongly discourages participants from using portable music devices such as MP3 players and IPods during the race as it makes it inhibits the ability to hear directions from course marshals/volunteers.
Aid Stations
Water and an electrolyte beverage will be available at all of the aid stations and the start/finish line. Check back for specific aid station locations in the New Year.
Walk or Run
The Big Run events are open to walkers and runners. However those wishing to walk the half marathon must be able to complete the distance within the 3 hour course time limit. The course will be considered closed 3 hours after the start of the half marathon at which time, participants remaining on the course will be transported to Bowness Park.
Timing & Results
Winning Time Canada is the official Timing and Results provider for The Big Run. Chips will be handed out to all participants on race morning. Chips must be worn around your ankle in order to receive a time. Please arrive early race day to collect your timing chip.
Awards & Prizing
All half marathon finishers will receive a custom designed participant’s medal. Medals will be awarded to 1st, 2nd and 3rd place in each age category for all events. Age categories are as follows: 19 and under, 20-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59, 60 and over. All registered participants will be eligible for draw prizes.
Pledge Program
The funds raised through The 2010 Big Run will support Theatre Calgary’s Student Education Series. The Student Education Series exposes youth to the wonders of live theatre and helps to enhance their knowledge of the performing arts through post-performance talkback sessions with theatre professionals. Nearly 12,000 students attended Student Education Series performances in 2008/09. Tickets for these performances are heavily subsidized. As a registered charity, we need your help to continue making the extraordinary productions on our stage accessible to students in southern Alberta. By collecting pledges, not only will you be rewarded with great incentives but you will be showing your support for this exceptional program.
